Clinical Governance

Our voluntary statement setting out the standards of safety, professionalism and legal compliance expected in the private medical services for which we provide clinical governance support.

This policy notice sets out our approach to clinical governance across the private medical services we support. We are committed to supporting only private medical practice that aims to be safe, effective and able to provide outstanding care.

Outstanding Private Medical Practice

We support private medical practice that is safe, effective, patient-centred and professionally accountable. Our expectation is that services will be delivered to a consistently high standard, informed by appropriate clinical expertise, clear protocols, accurate record-keeping and a culture of continuous improvement.

Legal and Regulatory Compliance

All services must operate in strict compliance with applicable law, regulation, professional duties and relevant standards of clinical practice. We expect compliance to be built into service design, decision-making, consent, confidentiality, safeguarding, prescribing, documentation and escalation processes, with concerns addressed promptly through appropriate governance arrangements.

Risk and Benefit Assessment

We require the risks, benefits, limitations and clinical appropriateness of each service to be considered with care before it is offered or delivered. Decisions should be evidence-based, proportionate and properly documented, with patient welfare, informed consent and clinical suitability at the centre of every assessment.

Quality, Safety and Review

We aim to maintain effective systems for monitoring quality, managing incidents, learning from feedback and reviewing outcomes. Where risks, deficiencies or concerns are identified, they should be escalated and addressed through appropriate governance processes.
